Handling the Effects of Herpes

When you have the herpes infection you should know that there  is  no  cure  for this condition. This is a very contagious infection and  can  affect anyone who  comes  in  contact  with  the  exudates  from a lesion  of  an infected individual. Having acquired a herpes  infection  may  cause  you suffer  the stigma.

Upon  finding out  that  you  have  herpes,  most people  may   become judgmental and often reject you socially.  This kind of  infection  is  also very  painful.  The  manifestations  of  the  infection  include  a burning sensation on where you may  be  affected  like  the  genitals.  It  is also possible to have the manifestation in another  location  in  the  body. Lesions may occur  in  mouth, inner cheeks or even the lips. You can get infected even if  you  just  had one night of exposure depending on your immune capabilities.

When dealing with the physiologic effects of herpes,  it  is  best  to note that treatment  only  focuses  on  limiting  the  symptoms.  During painful episodes, you may be given pain  relievers  to  control  or minimize  pain.  Since herpes is a chronic disease that has no  cure,  it  can  reoccur more than once. This may be a cause for you to be placed in  suppressive therapy to help limit the frequency  of  the  re-occurrence  of  the  infection. The symptoms of the reoccurring infection may be less severe than  that  of the primary infection.

In limiting the pain and providing comfort,  it  is best to keep the  affected  areas  clean  and  dry.  Wearing  loose  fitting non synthetic undergarments are also advised. To manage pain  non pharmacology management like sitz baths or cooling applications may be done  to  relieve  the pain.  Dealing with the social effects of herpes may be hard.

If you want to start an  intimate  relationship  with  someone  with  a  lesser chance of rejection, you may want to consider  dating  someone  who already has herpes infections as well as you do. It would be less awkward  to start a relationship with someone  who  already  knows  what  you  may  feel than someone who may not understand.
